Alanna Sugarman is a medical student at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (DGSOM). They earned a B.Sc. in Physics from Harvey Mudd College and worked as a software/data engineer for 7 years before medical school. Alanna is interested in using technology to find healthcare solutions for underserved populations, particularly in Los Angeles. They are passionate about working with people affected by substance use disorder, as well as LGBTQ and unhoused communities.  Alanna volunteers as an LA Human Rights Initiative case manager for asylum-seekers, at the student-run Mobile Clinic for the unhoused community, and as a Trevor Project lifeline counselor to support LGBTQ youths in crisis. In their free time, Alanna enjoys watching NBA basketball (go Sacramento Kings!), attending comedy shows, and solving the NYT crossword.
